“In Memory of Paul Stott”

Denise, Paul and the family were enjoying a good life when the devistating news came on the 3rd October 2007 at the age of 47, that Paul had Motor Neurone Disease. Paul had been struggling for a while with weakness in his left arm and exhaustion, which had prompted him to go to the doctor. Paul was in the middle of building a large extension on to the family home at the  time. Paul allowed himself the rest of the day off but went to work the next day as normal. Paul was a very strong person and took every part of his disease in his stride; he never gave up looking for answers as to why people get MND in the hope that one day a cure would be found. Paul soon realised that it wouldn’t come in his lifetime, but it didn’t stop him searching and putting suggestions to the consultant. He also turned his faith for strength to fight this disease, and the faith never faltered once.

Paul knew he was going to a better place; the biggest upset for him was to leave his family behind. Paul loved his family more than anything else. Paul and Denise knew that his time on earth was coming to an end, and on Christmas Eve he asked Denise to renew their vows. They renewed their vows at home on February 17th 2010. The struggle to fight the disease became too much for paul and with Denise’s blessing Paul went to be with the Lord on Saturday 6th March 2010.

Paul was a unique person who loved living and loved his family. He was extremely hardworking, clever and brilliant sense of humour. He loved a good laugh. He knew his own mind and what he wanted and made every effort to achieve his ambitions. He had tremendous stregth of character and his faith never faltered. He smiled all the way through his dreadful disease. One good thing that came from his disease is all the wonderful people that Paul, Denise and family met on his journey. Paul’s doctor looked after him and his family wonderfully, which made life with MND that little bit easier to bear and they also had excellent care from the nurses and carers.

Paul will be very sadly missed by Denise and all his family and friends.
